Huang Fei Hong Spicy Peanuts

Just a quickie today.

Yowzzza.......if you are craving a spicy treat, this might be exactly what you are looking for.  Yummy chili roasted peanuts.  Packs a really spicy punch, especially if you eat the chilis.  Bonus....if you like the tongue numbing sensation of Szechuan  peppercorns, you will not be disappointed.  We had them with our congee......the perfect accouterment!

Anyone else eating these?

  1. My dogs love these. They lick their lips forever because of the numbing. I try to avoid the peppercorns but I love the flavour of the peanuts! See you soon!

  5. I just bought some of these and they are great! Love the taste with a hint of sweet or lime and the hotness, mmmmm. I found them at my local Asian market and when I purchased them the guy ringing me up commented that they are his favorite snack. And about the dogs...I had a greyhound that loved hot food. Some dogs are freakish like that I guess or idiots.

  6. mmm... I love these! Discovered them randomly after a store clerk's recommendation. He had seen me purchasing Koh-Kae peanuts (another delicious Asian peanut snack) and assured me these were just as satisying. He was correct, I can't get enough!
Have you tried the recipe on the bag? I'd love to...but I can't read Chinese!

  7. My wife brought back two packages of these last summer when returning from a vacation in China. Now I wish she had brought back two suitcases full! The peanuts are crazy good and I sprinkle the spices in other food (like ramen). Next time she goes back to China, she can't come back unless she brings me a whole bunch of these!

  8. Anyone tried to make these? Shouldn't be too difficult - peanuts, dry chili, Sichuan peppercorns, MSG. I'd love to hear any recipes and how they turned out.

  10. I googled just now and found this:

    http://www.livestrong.com/recipes/spicy-peanuts-huang-fei-hong/

Also, the peanuts are a special kind, as mentioned on this website:

    http://www.flamingoshanghai.com/blog/2012/03/20/huang-fei-hong-spices-up-snack-market/

I had previously tried making it myself (I didn't have this recipe but my procedure was very similar) but they just weren't the same somehow. That's why I posted the question, to see if anyone was successful. Let me know how it comes out. My email is in the above comment.

  12. I love this and can eat them several times a day. I have them at my desk in my car, my bag, and my kitchen counter. I am somewhat calorie, fat, carb and protein conscious; does anyone know if to much of these are a bad thing? I heard that in just a TBSP there are 180 cal, 6 g of carb, and 5 grams of protein. Not sure if I should be concerned, esp if I am trying to drop a few lbs :-)
